Fruiterers in the Douglas Family

William Holmes born in Birmingham in 1844, moved to Penarth between 1881 and 1888, and opened a Fruiterer’s , which was at first in Glebe Street, then moved to Alexandra Place.

He married in approx 1869, and only his last child was born in Penarth. He died in June quarter 1907.

There is still a Fruiterer called William Holmes going in 1923 at 7 Glebe Street, though the two sons may be corn dealers further down the same street.
