Joseph Holmes |
Joseph was born about October quarter 1856 to
William and Caroline
née Whateley.
He was christened on 3rd Nov 1856 at Saint Martin, Birmingham,
Warwick Avenue.
He was an errand boy at 14 years of age, when his father died, he was looked after by elder sister Susannah.
He married Catherine Alice Allen of Cork, Ireland daughter of Abraham, in 1876 in Cork, Ireland. Catherine was born also in Ireland.
By 1881 he is working as a brushmaker in Bolton, though his wife and first two children are not present, perhaps in Ireland. He was probably in Swansea at some time, as his second daughter Rosaline was born there.
He lived in Blackburn at least between 1891 and 1901, still as a brushmaker.

Barbara Christina was born on 14 Dec 1877 in Cork, Ireland
Rosaline Ellen was born Sept 1879 in Swansea, Glamorganshire. Rosaline married Edward A Eastwood in April quarter 1923 in Blackburn district.
Catherine was born 1882 in Ireland
Florence Ada was born 15th August 1885 in Blackburn, and baptised 11th October 1885. Florence married Robert Holden in September quarter 1910 in Blackburn district.
William was born abt June quarter 1889 in Blackburn. He married Nancy Barnes in March quarter 1913 in Blackburn district.
Nellie Catherine was born June 1890 in Blackburn. She married Thomas E Armstrong in March quarter 1918 in Blackburn district.
